Blogs Entry #3 : A Sweet Holliday
Sweet Holliday Moments
By:Jenna Rankin
The sound of the clear plastic wrapper crackling fills the air as I twist and tug at it, eager to free the stubborn candy cane inside. At first, it holds on tight, but then, with a satisfying rip, the bright red and white-striped treat is finally out! It feels so smooth and solid in my hand, the curved tip fitting perfectly against my palm. The shiny surface glimmers in the light, and I can't help but run my fingers along those spiral stripes, enjoying that cool, firm texture. Holding it brings on all the warm, festive vibes—instantly reminding me of Christmas trees, stockings, and cozy snowy nights.
I pop it in my mouth and instantly delight in that first burst of sweetness—the cool, icy peppermint that dances on my taste buds. I let it sit on my tongue for a bit, letting the flavor deepen, sending a refreshing chill through me. As I move it around, the candy cane starts to change texture, from smooth and solid to sharper and more fragile where my tongue has worked its magic. I try to hold off, but finally, I can't resist anymore, and I take a bite. The satisfying crunch rings in my ears as the pieces vanish into a sugary, cool haze.
As the peppermint flavor starts to fade, I'm hit with a wave of nostalgia. I remember the excitement of yanking candy canes off the tree as a kid, pretending they were magic wands before finally enjoying their crisp sweetness. There’s just something comforting about it all—how the flavor clings to my taste buds and the simple joy of enjoying a candy cane that brings me back to those cozy winter evenings with family, holiday movies softly playing nearby. Even when the treat is gone, that wonderful feeling stays a simple pleasure wrapped up in a swirl of red and white.
